I decided to revisit my final project from Intro to Visual Design and improve upon a couple things. They were actually pretty easy and the project as a whole did not take as much time as I thought it would. While my initial project was ok, there were definitely some areas that needed more work, such as the ocean, the foam, the hands, some of the lighting, and the cliff.
I ended up using the ocean modifier from blender and importing it into Maya. I created three different ocean meshes, one for the actual water, one for the foam from where the person is drowning, and one from where the water is splashing against the rocks and the cliff. I also added more geometry to the cliff and reduced the height map so that it stuck out less. I added another hand as my original idea was not a realistic portrayal of how people drown, and I found that the subsurface element of the material for skin was making it look very weird, so I fixed that as well. As for the lighting, I did not actually fix much, but I changed the position of the Moonlight so it was more apparent. As I had adjusted the ocean's material as well, it reflected the light much better. Additionally, I changed up camera angles as my professor told me that I should have included pov shots from both the hands and the diver. Overall, I am much happier with my project now and I think it looks a lot better.
