Intention Definition and Exploration of Ideas: This marking period, my plan was to make an animation about the cycle of life, the one where we go to school to go to college to get a job to retire comfortably to wait for death. Unfortunately, I did not complete that animation as most of my time went into working on the main character, the 3D printer, but most of all, the letters for the Carlisle theater.
Planning: I wrote out the plotline for my animation about the cycle, which is a very new experience for me. but mostly I focused on my main character and planning what she would look like. I did not want to reuse my old character and opted for something a little more cartoony instead--big head, big eyes. The big eyes thing did not really work out, but the big head totally stuck. I was inspired by the character Hazel Levesque from Heroes of Olympus for this character, most through the blonde hair. I actually spent a decent amount of time on hair and which route I should go with that (particle system, modeling, or sculpting). For the letters, we kept on trooping with figuring out the angles for the shafts and the correct dimensions for the letters. We also included reference shots of the letters this time. I really did not do much planning for the national world language week animation except researching the monuments. For the TSA regionals animation, we delegated tasks and had to figure out how to collaborate with each other, which does not matter anymore because states has been cancelled due to coronavirus.
Producing: My plan to make the cycle animation did not pan out. I spent most of my time on my main character and the letters, which I am not angry about. I ended up making a really short animation showing the main character looking up at the sky, which I really wanted to include in the cycle animation: showing that we're so obsessed with our cycle and the future that we often forget or don't have the chance to take a break and look around, see how beautiful the world is. I was going to use the dynamic sky feature in blender, but it wasn't giving me the results I wanted. As such, I ended up using photoshop and creating a texture to put onto a sphere that surrounds the main character. I think it turned out pretty well except for the seam around the center. So the animation I ended up making is a pretty short one that was meant more for getting stills, but I ended up making an animation anyway. The main thing I worked on was the hair, I ended up sculpting and used a lot of the clay strips and grab brushes, just to give it a certain shape and make it look more hair like. I didn't want to model the hair again and the particle system hair just wasn't working it. It just hung down like uncooked spaghetti, I couldn't manipulate it in any way, so I switched to modeling. For the national world language week animation, I made simplified versions of international monuments and just panned the camera around, showing each one. I did want to show each monument longer but I had time constraints and rendering time was an issue. For the Forgotten Song animation, I worked on the main character, the trees, the environment, and the flute. We all tried to get done ahead of time, but ultimately we finished the animation the night before regionals, and I edited it around 1 am. Making the letters has been a bit frustrating, but we reworked and remade the shafts this time around, and we also used references to shape the shafts, which provided a massive improvement.
Evaluating: I think it all turned out pretty well. There are tiny issues in everything, which is normal so, oh well. I'm sad that I didn't have time to execute my animation, but it was a bit of an ambitious venture so I'm not too shocked. For the N'importe ou animation, I'm pretty happy with how it turned out given that I made it in a day. I wish I had been more creative with the titles of each monument, and that I had spent more time on each monument and included more monuments from around the world, because the majority of these monuments are European. As for the Forgotten Song animation, I already received feedback from Mr. Bomboy on it. I was most interested in improving the lighting and the movements of the character, but we don't really have a reason to work on it now. As for the letters, we have been getting pretty frustrated with the tiny issues we've found in each iteration, but I think we've reached a decent version of the model and we're excited to see how it turns out once we print it.

Integration: I guess I've learned to keep a realistic mindset of what I can accomplish and how much I can attain. I really like collaborating with people on animation because we were all giving each other little tid bits of information and small tips here and there, I learned a lot during that process. I also want to go forward and work on more 3D prints, I realized that I do actually want to work on making my own prints, and I already have some ideas.
