My Goals for the Third Marking Period

I'm hoping to improve myself significantly in the third marking period; As the fourth marking period is usually occupied with preparations for the district arts fest, the third marking period is really my last chance to work on my skills in high school. As such, I have certain goals that I wish to accomplish for the third marking period. It will be a bit challenging to accomplish everything I want to because of TSA and Stage Crew taking up a lot of my time, but I will try to finish as much as I can.
I'd like to work on my color theory. I haven't really done a whole lot with color in the past, which is why I'd like to study color a little bit in this marking period and employ that in my next animation (especially because I had found it to be lacking in my last animation). I'd also like to keep up my rhythm: I've made one animation per marking period so far this year, and I'd like to keep up that tempo, which will give me three complete animations for this year, along with whatever I make for TSA.
Along with my animation however, I'd also like to work on some stills as well. I realized with last year's district art's display that stills are actually really important because the computer only takes up one side of the display. This matters a lot more especially this year since I will have one whole display to myself. As such, I'd like to work on some more fantasy-related stuff since I haven't done any of that this year. It is what I focused on last year and I wouldn't mind going back to it a little. I also aim to have some 3D prints alongside my animations and stills (especially since I did so much work with the 3D printer this year). If I could figure out how to print particle systems, that would be even better.
I'd like to dabble in 2D animation a little if I get the time. I recently got an app called flipaclip that allows you to create 2D animations really quickly, and I'd like to get some more practice on a computer as well. However, I don't think I have enough time to create a full fledged 2D animation, but I'm going to work on developing a concept: I really like the portfolio piece I made with the bridge shuffling technique, and I think that could make a cool 2D and 3D animation. As such, I'd like to see if I could somehow combine the two techniques as done in the animated short "Kitbull". As such, I might work on developing stills of those in 2D and 3D forms and then make animations over summer.

I noticed that having all my components ready and all my experimenting done before I even started creating the piece really helped me a lot with my last animation. So for this one, my experimentation phase is going to be a little longer than it has been in the past. Especially since I want to develop a new human model. The one I have now is fine, but I'd like to develop one with a more cartoon-y vibe to it. I'd also really like to work on emotions: I usually get too tired to go through and do shape keys but emotions are going to be an integral part of my next animation, which means that the topology for the face has to be pretty darn good.
One of my biggest issues to date is that I am unable to convey my messages through my pieces. That is truly something I would like to improve with my next piece: I'd like to have my idea be as clear and comprehensible as possible. Another thing I've noticed is that my theme seems to be veering towards my life and me preparing for the next chapter of my life instead of art and nature, and I'm honestly fine with that. I am focusing a lot more on human nature, and how our environment effects us is still a huge part of that.
Overall, I want to improve on all the flaws I've been noticing since I started in digital modeling. I doubt that I will be address all of them, but I hope to become a significantly better and more well-rounded artist by the end of this marking period.
