Process Page: Carlisle Theatre Letters

Me and Vivian have been working on modeling and printing the Carlisle Theatre Letters for the past week. We've been making some mistakes along the way and things are a bit interesting as we are working in Blender 2.8( as well as 3D printing in it for the first time). But I think things are going well enough.

Box Modeling
Curve Modeling
I started off getting the measurements of the walls and width of the letters, which are 14 mm and 5 mm respectively. We then got to modeling, and as they wanted Century Gothic for the theatre letters, we created a template in word that we wrote in green and then highlighted in yellow, because modeling black letters on a white background was a bit hard. We debated over curve modeling versus box modeling for a while, and found through experimentation that curve modeling worked for the curved letters and numbers and box modeling was better for the others. I took on curve modeling while Vivian did box modeling. We were able to split it into 18 characters each and we started modeling them from scratch, but curve modeling was proving more difficult than anticipated, particularly in terms of filling in the faces for the letters.

After struggling for a while, I gave up on the modeling and started looking for the font online so that we could input it into blender and simply use text to create everything we needed, and it worked, even though the topology is a bit weird. The text idea worked out very well, and we appended my letters into Vivian's file and got to work. We first extruded them, and then set about the business of figuring out the slashes. Mr. Bomboy gave us the idea of using a boolean modifier to cut it out, and it worked well. But we are still trying to figure out the exact dimensions of the slits and the object we will need. I tried measuring it out but it didn't work out, and I realized that it was because of unit discrepancies, which I will fix and then start anew. I had also though that we'd be able to do whatever we wanted with the width and length and then sort it out in the x3g file, but it seems that we are going to have to give them the correct proportions in blender itself, which just means more conversions for me.
