Rebecca Parham is one of the many YouTube animators that have become famous in recent years; she started off with sketching and didn't truly get into it until senior year of high school. After a year of college, she realized that she wanted to go into animation and after completely reworking her portfolio, got into Ringling. While she struggled at first, she eventually found her pace. After college ended, while she initially had to deal with the question of either joining a studio or starting her own business. She chose the latter, and eventually transitioned to a full time YouTuber.
Her channel focuses on explaining her life experiences and casting them in a humorous light. She has more recently developed a style that she feels comfortable with -- she typically doesn't include mouths, which means she does not have to draw as many frames. Most of her expression is done through her eyes and eyebrows, as well as tone of voice and hand gestures. She utilizes colors and body language well to get her point across.
I have recently been thinking of experimenting with 2D animation, and will do so as soon as I finish my animation. Additionally, my final project for my history class this year is going to be a 2D animation. As such, I have much to take from her and others of the YouTube animation community. I find that the no mouths policy is pretty smart as creating mouth movements for characters is quite time-consuming. Additionally, I like how she keeps the characters simplistic but also includes details. Some of her earlier work ( the second video) features a more detailed character, but the quality isn't as good; part of that could be that she has gained more experience over time. I have spoken multiple times to the fluidity of movement that comes with 2D animation, and she has incorporated that well into her work.
