For the past few weeks, I've been working on the second of my three mythical animals: the wolf. While the initial model was actually quite easy to create, I took more time on the hair that I created for the cycles render of the wolf. As it was my first time working with hair--especially since the hair covered the whole body--I had to take a while to work out all the kinks. Overall, I am proud of the piece I created. The wolf is a tad more creepy that optimal, but I think that plays rather well into the mythical aspect of it all as wolves are often shown as representations of evil in certain mythologies. Certainly, it adds a fiercer look to the wolf, which I like. As for the hair, I think it turned out well too. There are certain oddities, but the general look is good. I used to particle systems: one for the body and one for the face, which I believe was the best way to go with this piece. The addition of the hair made the wolf seem a bit polygonal in shape, but I decided to go with it. One problem that I could not fix, however, was that some hair went past the paws, and I was not able to delete those strands. In the end, I simply put a plane to cover up the hair, but I might look into it further.
Furthermore, I decided to play a little with lighting and the color of the wolf's eyes. I had emission materials on both the teeth and the eyes, and after dimming the other lights, I got some shots of the wolf with different eye colors. It certainly is rather creepy, and I quite enjoy the looks. I like both of the colors, however, I might go with red if I intend to show the wolf as evil, and blue otherwise.
