Presentation Reflections

Last week we looked at what our classmates had been doing throughout the marking period; Seeing the works of my peers has put a few things into perspective as well as give me some inspiration regarding my future works.

Bakhshi: Bakhshi focused on a character from a game she likes this marking period. She used sculpting for the face and nodes for the coloring. Her model looks very professional and she has achieved a polished look while maintaining her style. I also found her background interesting and it is something I might experiment with. While I  like the face of the model, I don't think I will employ her method of sculpting as I have found that box-modeling suits me better. However, I will make an effort to to utilize nodes as I admire the look she achieved with her method. One thing that I have been struggling with in my female model is her hair, and I like the hair that Bakhshi has created without using a particle system. As such, I will try to replicate the effects of modeled hair in my own model.

Auburn: This marking period, Auburn focused on developing a documentary on the lgbtq+ community. She's delivering a meaningful message with her work, and that was what made me think about incorporating meaning into my work as well. Incorporating meaning into your work adds more dimension as well as makes it more personal, thus taking the work to another level. I helped her out a bit while she worked out the lighting system (by which I mean I sat on a chair), and I like how she puts focus on the subject with a simple lighting structure. She has a well-developed idea and has questions and interviewees ready, which really shows how much work she has put into her project.

Auburn's storyboard

Vivian: Vivian has been working on an animation following a girl with literal butterflies in her stomach. What interested me about her work this marking period was that she took inspiration from her own drawings. I have known Vivian for quite some time, and I've always been amazed at her drawing skills. Taking inspiration from one's owns drawings is also quite an advanced practice and something that will undoubtedly help in the future. As such, it is something I might try to incorporate in the future. Of course, it will also help me gain a better sense of the characters as well as help improve my sketching abilities.

Keaton's Earth
Keaton: Keaton is a senior in the program, and as such has much more experience than me in this matter. Keaton was able to accomplish a great deal of work in a relatively short amount of time, which is something I will work towards. He worked on components for his game, but created terraform-like objects that really interested me. I've seen posters like that hanging in Mr. Bomboy's room and I'm interested in how I could model something akin to that.

Blaze's 3D printed wand

Blaze: Blaze has been working on creating a magic shops of sorts for a while now, I think it is coming along well. His involvement with the 3D printing process. He has created various 3D prints over the marking period and they are turning out well. As I am interested in 3D printing, the idea of an assortment of 3D prining objects is appealing. Additionally, his series is turning out well, and his interest in fantasy is heloing his creativity. It doesn't hurt that magic and fantasy has many objects that qualify for 3D printing.
